Warning regarding the advent calendar of agitated toys with high levels of toxic chemicals

Authorities have issued a safety warning regarding a toy-shaped advent calendar that contains high levels of a toxic chemical known to be harmful to children.

Trade standards officials said the calendar should not be handed over to children.

Tests on toys have revealed excessive amounts of bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) which can harm children’s health and damage their reproductive systems.

The calendar went on sale in North Lanarkshire and the local authority said the product did not identify the manufacturer or importer and did not follow safety regulations.

“The lack of details on manufacturers and importers on this timeline has raised concerns with our trade standards team, and testing of the product has highlighted significant safety concerns,” said Advisor Michael McPake, host. of the North Lanarkshire Council Environment and Transport Committee.

“Through the vigilance of our agents, we are taking action to remove these calendars from sale and I ask the public to share this information with anyone who may have purchased any of these calendars.

“Our advice is not to open them or let the children play with the toys inside and take the calendar back to the retailer where you bought it. You are entitled to a full refund.
